Everyone is absolutely loving the new reality tv show The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives myself included. I love their gorgeous thick hair and mermaid waves, they all have the cutest most on trend athletic wear, and not to mention the best TikTok moves. I thought the secret of this show would be how they’re all gorgeous or maybe how they all have the most in shape figures, or maybe even where they place their injectables BUT the real secret is …. They’re using laughing gas for botox?!
Having been in aesthetics and injectables for sometime I was shocked to learn (among a lot of other things I was shocked to learn on that new show) that the wives on the show use laughing gas to receive botox injections. Botox is a neurotoxin that essentially relaxes the muscles therefore giving us the smooth, flawless and most importantly wrinkle free look we love so much. Now receiving a botox injection isn’t relaxing (despite the relaxing it does on our foreheads!) but it does not require laughing gas as it is just a slight pinch. The botox needle is so fine that any pain is extremely limited and quickly passes. So color me surprised when I saw how much laughing gas, or nitrous oxide (which is used in aesthetics, the medical field and the density field to relax a patient) the wives were using for a few quick pricks of botox.
Laughing gas, or nitrous is typically used for something like a CO2 laser, or a Morpheus8 procedure, or in office minor cosmetic procedures but not typically for something like botox which again is extremely fast and not painful. However, once one of the wives noted she isn’t sure if her friends come for the botox or the nitrous it almost made sense. In the Mormon faith believers are not allowed to partake in drugs, caffeine (like coffee), or alcohol but nitrous oxide does not necessarily fall into any of those “off limits” groups so maybe it's just a way for the wives to relax while beautifying!
Most aesthetic clinics and plastic surgery practices would not offer nitrous gas for something like botox injections because it would unfortunately make the price of botox higher for the patient. It also is just not necessary and would prevent the patient from driving home and would make them unnecessarily loopy for an activity or commitment they may have after their appointment and that would defeat the whole purpose of botox - it is quick, easy, effective!
